Recreation Connections is pleased to provide our website as a communication tool for people involved in recreation activities in Manitoba.
 
As you can imagine, there are many great resources out there for additional information.  Check out some of the following links for more recreation related information:
 
  • Manitoba in motion - The Manitoba in motion strategy is a province wide movement aimed at increasing physical activity for health benefits
  • Get Moving Manitoba - Get Moving Manitoba is all about helping you get more active by encouraging you to make a personal lifestyle pledge to engage in physical activity
  • Winnipeg in motion - This initiative is a health promotion program aimed to have people become more physically active on a regular basis.
  • Communter Challenge - The Communter Challenge is a friendly competition between Canadian communities to encourage the use of sustainable modes of transportation to and from work.
  • Go for Green - A national not-for-profit, charitable organization that encourages Canadians to pursue healthy, outdoor physical activities that protect, enhance or restore the environment.
  • Manitoba Healthy Living Resource Clearinghouse - The Manitoba HLRC website provides information and support to health practitioners, organizations, groups and communities in their pursuit of good health and well-being.  You will find resources, news, events and research.
  • Health Promotion Days - Health Canada Online's Calendar of Health-Related Days lists health-related days, weeks and months that have been announced by recognized health organizations and are recognized throughout the health professional community.
  • Age-Friendly Cities - As a result of the Global Age-Friendly Cities Project (Portage la Prairie having served as one of thirty-three project sites), the World Health Organization (WHO) has developed a guide and other resource tools to engage cities to become more age-friendly and enhance the quality of life as people age.

National

  • Canadian Parks and Recreation Association - CPRA is a recognized national leader and advocate for recreation associations
  • Canadian Recreation Facility Council - CRFC is a recognized national leader and advocate for recreation facility associations and similare organizations.
  •  True Sport Lives Here - A national movement committed to the belief that sport makes a powerful and positive contribution to the development of people and communities.
  •  Lifestyle Information Network - A national network that collects, disseminates and exchanges information among leisure services professionals.
  • Northern Links - Managed by L.I.N., this initiative is reaching out to sport and recreation professionals in Canada's First Nation, Rural and Remote Communities.  Their searchable online database can provide information & resources on program models, action kits, research, policies and more.

Local & Provincial

  • Recreation and Regional Services Branch - a Province of Manitoba Department that supports the development of healthy people and communities through recreation, physical activity and wellness promotion.
  • Manitoba Healthy Living - a Province of Manitoba Department that supports and promotes the best health choices for Manitobans.
  • Recreation Conference for Community Volunteers - a Provincial Conference that targets community volunteers, elected officials and recreation practitioners from rural Manitoba.
  • Manitoba Recreation Trails Association - a non-profit organization that assists local, volunteer trail associations to design and build recreational trails in Manitoba.
  • Manitoba Aboriginal Sport and Recreation Council - provides opportunities for Aboriginal people of Manitoba to participate and compete in sporting and recreational activities while fostering and encouraging cultural awareness.
  • Manitoba Fitness Council - promotes quality fitness leadership training in order to provide Manitobans with safe, effective and enjoyable physical activity program.
  • Sport Manitoba - a provincial organization that provides leadership and support to over 100 amateur sport organizations in Manitoba.
  • Volunteer Manitoba - a provincial organization that support groups and individuals in the voluntary sector to develop and enhance their capacity to anticipate, understand, celebrate, and meet community needs in Manitoba.
  • Manitoba Communities in Bloom inspires Manitoba communities to improve the quality of life and civic pride through sustainable best practices in community involvement, environmental awareness, beautification, heritage preservation, education, and networking.
